Prairie Schooler Finish!

Whew. <--- Notice that enthusiasm? Yeah, the whole month has been like that. The past two days have seen me stitching furiously on my Prairie Schooler Garden Fairy, so that I could finally update my blog, and I've been successful in my endeavor! Here's my little finish for the month. This was a series of 4 fairies, and I've now completed them all-I'm really happy about that. I know Aida seems old school, but I did the first one on it (waaaaaaay back in '95), so I kept it consistent.

Prairie Schooler/Garden Fairy
Fiber: DMC
Fabric: 14 ct. Oatmeal Aida

I'm really excited about Halloween coming up. There's a certain healing of my spirit that comes with Fall. I don't know why, but it's always been that way for me. Lots of time just spent in wonderment at the changing season, the colors it brings, and cycle of it all. It's kind of like my New Year, you know? It's when I take stock of things--usually deciding I've not done enough with my life, lol--and begin to make changes for myself.

I picked up this today:

Now, say what you will about Martha, but I love this woman. She's brave. She has guts and gusto. And she throws one helluva Halloween party! My idol. This issue is luscious, honestly. I subscribe to Living, but I *treat* myself to this issue every single year.

Have a productive week and I'll be back VERY soon with a new start. Oh, not those pesky WIP's either. Something Halloweeny to be sure! :-p

  1. Hi how are you?

I was looking through your blog, and I found it interesting, and inspiring to me, so I thought why not leave you a comment.

I too have a blog that I use out of Southern California here in San Diego.

Mostly it is a collection of artistic expression, and I have many friends with the same interests, maybe you can become my friend, and follow, and I can also follow you, if that is okay.

Well I hope to hear from you soon, and or read about you….LOL

    Sincerely,
    Jesse

  3. I love your finish! What a wonderful set it will make. I have the stitching fairy in my sewing room, and I never tire of it.
One thing I love about Fall, is Halloween! I agree, there is something magical in the air! Are you working on any Halloween projects right now? I can't wait to get going on one.
    Take Care!

  11. Very nice finish!

I was never a big fan of Martha, but have been watching her show almost every day now. She really is creative!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you choose to stitch next. I'm thinking about stitching nothing but Halloween things next year :)

  13. Well, whether it's on aida or not, it's a wonderful finish!

  14. Your project turned out adorable.

AND ... love the new header!

I just got my Martha yesterday too, but I haven't sat down long enough to really savor it yet.

I don't really understand the Martha-haters - I wish I looked that good at her age and had her resilience.

  15. Yay! Welcome back! I love the new Halloween look! I'd have stuck with the Aida also, otherwise it would have been a little off. Very cute!

There are some great new Halloween things, aren't there?

Someday you should vacation in the first or second week of October in Vermont (if you haven't). I promise you a fall experience like none other. I'm a complete fall person (summer leaves me limp and dispirited and winter just makes my skin dry and flaky), which I always attributed to an early upbringing in Vermont and an Oct. birthday.

So, happy fall--the cicadas have started up, and the sky is blue-blue, so it's just around the corner (well, in a month or two, anyway).

  18. Fun finish, very cute. I think it looks great on the aida. I don't use aida much, but some designs work well on it and I think this is one. So, how are you going to finish the four fairies up? Frame as a set? Or, stitch together for a four square pillow or turn into a bellpull, or what? Can't wait to see what you decide. Looking forward to seeing what your next start will be as well. You know, if you have the mice pattern too, you could stitch it along with me, maybe we could encourage each other to keep at it. :)

I'm looking forward to fall and Halloween too, although I'd enjoy it much more if I could forget it also meant winter was on its way again too. I so could do with missing winter, snow and cold is not my thing at all.

Of course, you know I'll be ready for Halloween too! Gerald is even talking about having a costume party for his birthday since it's the 30th.

  22. Congrats on your finish! It made me so happy to come to your blog and find it all "Halloweened Out"! I too, love Halloween, and fall. It's kind of a time of renewal for me too. I think I'm going to start that Halloween Fairy by Mirabilia. Can't wait to see what you're going to stitch. I need to go pick up that Martha issue - love her, and how she does Halloween!!

  24. Great finish :o) Totally love your blog update! I am a huge Martha Stewart fan, she has so many great ideas. I watch her show every day. Will have to tell me if the rest of that magazine is as cool as the cover.

  25. Your garden fairy looks great, Tammy! I love Fall too. I was born in September and so was my daughter -- not to mention all my siblings, how weird is that? Bring on the cool temps, we can sure use them after the last few weeks.

  26. I love the fairies. Well done! I always liked the oatmeal aida.

  28. Woo hoo! Congratulations and happy dances for you for finishing this darling little garden witch!

You know, I've never bought one of Martha Stewart's mags, but I really like the cover. I'll bet my witchy, Halloween loving sibling would enjoy reading it, too. :)

  29. Very nice. My PS 'snail' is at an even slower pace. Bought the card (actually there were 4 cards) and never ever got them out to stitch.

I think yours is lovely --- looks great

  30. *doing the finished happy dance with you* Looks fabulous and your stitching is lovely. It looks great on aida, as well. I use aida a lot and see myself as being a trend setter for the future....when we are all old cross stitchers and we need 11 count aida because it will be the only count we will be able to see! lol
