Sticking a Toe in the Water

Not real water anyway. We didn't head to the beloved beach this year. Turns out my furbaby Baxter is diabetic and he kind of ate up (no pun intended) all our beach money this year! No problem though. He's all regulated now and we're back on track for an awesome vacation next summer.

So, I've been wondering why I got turned off from blogging for so long. I think I just couldn't keep up. There are so many great ladies blogging out there. I was feeling so much pressure to respond to all the great blogs in my reader, and you know what? I just can't, lol. I simply couldn't do it. And I always say I understand if people don't leave comments, because sometimes, it's so overwhelming. At least it is for me. Anyone have any advice in that arena? I'm all ears!

I've not bought any stitching for so long and I'm enjoying getting caught up on what's out there--though I think we all know that I could never live long enough to stitch what's in my stash anyway. But I still love looking. I have begun stitching again, albeit very slowly. I worked more at my "real" job this past year and have some other things going on that just took time away from stitching. I don't like it, but that's the truth.

Anyone else HOT? In my neck of the woods it's 11pm right now and the heat index is still 100. I felt like my face was going to melt off today. I was out for a bit, but to be quite honest, I couldn't deal with being out in the heat for more than a few minutes. It's brutal.

So, like I said, I'm just sticking my toe in right now. I need to get caught up on some stitching and post some updates. Let's see if I can keep to my goal to post more than twice in one year, eh?

I hope everyone is up to some stitch goodness. I have so much to catch up on and look at. Enjoy your weekends, stay cool, and love one another. Thanks for peeking in!

  1. I understand. I got away from blogging for a while, too. For me, it was Facebook that did me in. Plus I wasn't really stitching much, so I didn't have any progress or finishes to post. I'm trying to get back into it again. As for commenting on other blogs, it can get overwhelming, but lately it seems like other bloggers aren't blogging as much either, so there are less posts to comment on anyway! ;)

  2. Welcome back! I get overwhelmed also, and speaking for myself, I don't expect people to comment, necessarily. I just put it out there, and if people read, great. I do it more as a show and tell that spurs me to stitch more, and also because I enjoy looking back on my posts as kind of a journal. I'm sorry about the beach--I know how much you love it. I've been unemployed until recently (and it's only a 4-5 month job), so there's no great vacation in our near future either.

  3. Oh golly we all go through stops and spurts, but don't put pressure on yourself! There is only so much of you to go around and if you have time to comment then that's great and if not, that's great too! Just enjoy it! Visit when you can and don't when you can't. There is much cleansing when you just hit that "mark as read" button and start fresh :) That's what I do....when I get behind....and its all wiped clean!

  4. So happy to see you testing the waters again! I've missed you! I know what you mean about blogging. I haven't made too many appearances either. It's too hard for me to respond to everyone, and it just seemed to take over my life. I had a great social network, but no time for stitching, or sewing, so I've backed way off too. That being said, it's still nice to keep a finger in the pot and see what others are doing.
Hope all is well. Can't wait to see what you are working on.

  5. I take 'unintentional' breaks throughout the year, not meaning too then realizing I have. Unless one is publishing a blog as a part of their business, I am of the philosophy that You have to enjoy your personal blog first and foremost (from the creation of a post, to posting, to tinkering with it overall). Do what works best for you!!! :-)

  6. Hello. I know exactly what you mean, by blogging, stitching, and keeping up. I feel overwhelmed with it a great deal. I enjoy reading your Blog. Don't feel the pressure to publish. When you do, it's welcome, but there's no need to worry about it.

  7. You are not alone Tammy. I have over 500 stitchy blogs in my reader and if I take or 3 days off, there are 800 posts. I do read them all, but I don't comment as much as I would like because that would take too long (or I can't sit up to type). I haven't whittled the list down for a couple reasons. One being that I love to read the blogs and see other people's progress with their projects. Another being I spend a lot of time off my feet, in bed, due to pain so having the blogs to read is a nice distraction since I can't stitch laying down.

It is real hot where I am also, that seems to be the trend this summer.

I also haven't blogged much recently because I haven't been stitching, my pain has been pretty bad since April and it has kicked in my depression, so stitching hasn't gotten done. No mojo.

You aren't alone with your stash size either. There is no way I could stitch every pattern I owned, even if I stitched 24/7 for the next 50 years. I enjoy collecting the patterns though, so I continue to do so. I re-read the mags and books, and look at the patterns and daydream. This also makes me feel better, so its worth it.

    Good luck and welcome back!
