Remember Leisure Arts? Well, not like they're gone, but it seems I don't see anyone stitching their stuff. But I LOVE their designs and about 18 years ago (I know, I know, I'm old!) this was one of the first things I stitched. Just a little pillow, but I continue to love it when I bring it out every year. It was from a hard back book they published every year for a long time. I wonder if they still do? I have tons of them, lol!
I'm not big on finishing, but I've been reading up on how to do things, and I want to have some ornies for next Halloween and next Christmas. Anyone use glue on their ornaments instead of lacing? Fill me in and let me know your favorite finishing techniques for small items. Until next time...
Love the Santa pillow! Keep up the hard work.
ReplyDeleteYour wip looks great! and I love your Santa pillow! I love Leisure Arts old magazine and books and I still have lots of them. One day....lol...I'll get to stitching in them again:)
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting started on ornies, so no finishing techniques to pass on yet. For 30+ years, I only framed pieces. Times have really changed and I ready to change with them:) Good luck:)
Hmmm...I wouldn't glue anything. Maybe we can have a finishing party? I want to make the dragon fly design into a pillow and the bird of paradise too.
ReplyDeleteNice work~
Night and day looks really great. I love the way you have finshed your Santa pillow. The few ornaments I have done this year have been a combination of lacing and glueing, which ever works at the time!!
ReplyDeleteI remember that Santa! Hmmm, I think I have that book! haha
ReplyDeleteI used to subscibe to their magazine For the Love of Cross stitch! I miss that magazine! It was good!

I notice that ABC Stitch shows some Leisure Arts designs that are really nice. I love the Santa pillow. On the finishing, I'm a purist (with a sewing machine), so only sewing. But hey, whatever works and what you're happiest with--I'd just worry in my case because I'm messy and likely to slop the glue around.
ReplyDeleteNight and day looks wonderful, I love the colors. Santa looks great too.
ReplyDeleteLove your Santa pillow :) I have tons of those LA books and I LOVE them!!! I think it's a shame they stopped publishing that "Christmas Remembered" series.
ReplyDeleteLooking great, Tammy. Not far to go now. That Santa pillow is so cute too.
ReplyDeleteFinishing, don't talk to me about finishing. I cringe at the thought. :)
Hmm... Finishing... I usually don't use glue on the actual stitched piece. But for example if I'm doing a pinkeep, I do glue the padding to the cardboard just to save some time.
ReplyDeleteTammy, I learned how to lace from a former shop owner and that was her 'special' thing and she was the PRO at it. I can't seem to master lacing.
ReplyDeleteThe only parts that I EVER glue on my ornaments, cubes, etc are the very edges that you are turning over onto the posterboard/mat board. And I use a hot glue gun. I learned this from the pros who finish stuff for Just Nan and Lizzie Kate...Mona and Pam are REALLY helpful and make it look so darn easy! :-) I dont sew though so it looks like I'll have a ton of cubes sitting around. lolol!
You've made great progress on Night and Day, it's looking so pretty. You're Santa pillow is lovely too, what a darling decoration to be able to set out.

Tammy, got your comment re: wanting to join the 2009 ornie group. Can you go back to my site, go to the link I added on my post for the 2009 Christmas Ornament Grp and leave Carol a comment there to join? Let me know if you have a problem.
ReplyDelete..and thanks for your sweet comments on my blog! Hugs!
Hi Tammy,
ReplyDeleteI'm Wendy from Belgium. You really make nice things!!! Especially the halloween decoration is very nice. I find this so sorry that we don't celebrate Halloween here in Belgium. Some people do celebrate Halloween, but it is not famous here yet in Belgium. However, next year I would like to decorate my house also with some Halloween things I will make myself.
I love to do cross stitching, scrapbooking, cardmaking, patchwork etc... Too many things I want to do and to less time, but I enjoy doing all kind of creative things.
Greetings from Belgium,
Wendy
Beautiful, I love how you finished this. Happy holidays to you & yours!!
ReplyDeleteHere is a site with tutorials on finishing.... http://focusonfinishing.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI hope it helps. :)
I've just found your blog via Daffy Cat's. Nice to see I'm not the only one into the macabre and over 40.
