Santa Corn Ornie Finish

Another ornie finish! This one was really quick. I can tell you that I had some trouble with the corners on this ornie. Can anyone tell me if there is a trick to corners? It seems so bulky to turn a corner on this when whip-stitching it closed with the beads. I'm taking that bell off too. After finishing, it kind of went wonky.

Thank you for taking a peek! Now, do I pull out something new or work on Gathering Eggs?

  1. Tammy, I love your ornament. It is so adorable. You did a great job. I would love to be able to do something like that with the beadwork, but I don't think I would be any good at it. Take care!

  3. I think your finishing is just lovely--I don't see any problem. I know when I'm turning corners when I sew that I clip the seam allowance close to the stitching to eliminate the bulk. Not sure if that's what you meant, but in any case no one could tell that you had any difficulty, because it looks perfectly finished to me. Hmmm--I always vote for a new start. Happy week!

  4. What a cutie. Your corners look great to me. But sometimes if you have a heavy fabric and really are having a little trouble turning them you can: 1. put about three stitches on the diagonal above the corner and make sure your thread is secure. This will keep your very small seam allowance from fraying. 2. Then cut the fabric at the corners DIAGONALLY across the corner. That should eliminate most of the bulk and make it a lot easier when putting the ornament together.

Looks to me though, like you are getting pretty good at this...WOWZERS you go girl.

  7. I love this ornie and the finishing looks perfect to me. There's nothing bulky visible after all. I always use the trick that Yoyo describes, I cut the fabric diagonally across the corner. That helps a lot.
    I'd start something new!

  12. Very cute!

I agree with the others about cutting the corners on the diagonal. If you are using something pointy to put your stuffing in, just make sure that you don't push too hard in the corners.

  14. I think it looks fine! Yes, just trim your corners diagonally, close to the stitching. Yoyo's tip on reinforcing at the corner is a good idea, something I learned in sewing garments.

Did you sew it together and then whip stitch the beads on or whip stitch it right from the beginning? I want to learn this technique.
